"Thank you for Leaving" is an ongoing series that began pre-pandemic and uses facetime as a way of photographing my grandparents from afar. I was frustrated with my geographical distance to my grandparents and this project became a way to further collaborate with them.
The clearer images in this series were shot on 35mm film using a projector. The photographs were directed by me and followed through by my grandparents who ultimately had the most agency in how these shots were composed (Anyone who has Facetimed with a family member over 80 knows this to be true. There is only so much direction one can give to an elder wielding an iPhone or iPad.)
The less-clear prints are silver gelatin prints of a video call I had with my grandfather. Once again, I used my phone as the negative and placed it in the enlarger. I then played a screen recording of our call, which was then enlarged onto light-sensitive paper.
